I've noticed some E71 users complain about transfer speeds. The low rates are due to a slow MTP/USB implementation on this very popular phone. If you have a card reader, and are willing to "update" the music library every time you sync, you may want to give this a try.
Similarly, the N97 has issues with its "Media transfer" mode. Follow these instructions to make Salling Media Sync recognize this phone when it's connected in "mass storage" mode (or using a card reader).
1. Download the attached file
2. Put the file on your phone's storage card (in the top folder)
3. Unplug and replug you phone. Media Sync should now pick it up in mass storage mode.
