Installed SMS and the ball is grey and spins, log show it's detected but nothing else happens and no other errors or warnings in the logs. I have tried:

PC Suite
Mass Storage
Image Transfer
Media Transfer

None seem to work. Any suggestions or ideas?

"Media transfer" is the only mode to use. Could you please try using this mode a few times (i.e. reconnect a few times in this mode)?

Best.

I have tried about 20 times now. I rebooted the Mac, I rebooted the phone. It's just really strange.

Just tried it on a different Mac, same result. Media transfer, SMS detects it, then spins grey nothing else happens. I can use the Ovi suite that came with the phone on Windows and it syncs with that, just won't on my Mac or with SMS.

Could you please check Console for error messages?

Also, I'd like to know whether you have a storage card in your phone.

Best.

No storage card. Here's what's in the console:

Okay. Your log appears to indicate that things might be a bit messed up right now ("Stray process with PGID equal to this dead job: PID 32622 PPID 32177 sleep").

Do you have a storage card you could try sticking in the phone? For some reason, you're seeing I/O errors when we try to talk to the phone. I don't know why.

Best.

Alright. I'll have to get back to this thread a bit later, when I've had a friend of mine experiment a bit more, okay?

Strange it seems to have started working. I'll keep updated as to if any other issues crop up.

Not working again. And I have tried on a 3rd Mac. Starting to wonder if it might be the phone, but that would be strange since it syncs fine on Windows.

Ok not sure if it's just my device, I can't seem to find anyone else with one to confirm but here's what I have experienced:

It will only sync with the mac or PC if I first connect it to windows in PC Suite mode. Once Windows sees it in PC suite mode then magically it works. If I just hook it up to the PC or my Mac after restarting the phone and try to connect it in media transfer mode, it never works on Windows or my Mac. Strange. Wish we had someone else to confirm they are having the same issue.

Oh and connecting in the Mass Storage mode works fin on both PC and Mac with no issues other than you can't sync with SMS. That makes me think it's a software bug since it does get recognized it's just the mode.

Well glad to hear someone else is having the same issue and it wasn't just my unit, however, I just gave up and returned it. Just too frustrating to spend $700 on a device to not have it work perfect or at least in the ballpark of perfect.

A firmware update just came out for the N97, and it looks like they fixed some USB issue.

Would anyone be able to test it?

Best.
