Just got myself a shiny new G1 with the joy that comes with installing loads of 3rd party applications etc. Except that try as I might I cannot find a PC remote/ itunes controller quite as wonderful as good old salling clicker.

Is there any news on if/when the G1 will become supported? surely Androids open format will make coding such support a breeze!

Cheers

Pete

I asked about this some time ago and the response was that bluetooth wasn't accessible so it wasn't an option.

My question is, any changes in the 2.0 framework that may make it possible?

I believe so, yes!
I actually don't know what's needed to get Salling Clicker to work, but quite a few bluetooth-things have been added to Android 2.0.
It will support the profile "Object Push Profile", and from the release notes (http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.0.html):

API changes summary
Bluetooth
•Turn on/off Bluetooth
•Device and service discovery
•Connect to a remote device using RFCOMM and send/receive data
•Advertise RFCOMM services and listen for incoming RFCOMM connection

Hopefully this will be enough to get Salling Clicker running :)

I just want to let you know that CyanogenMod, the most popular Android ROM supports BT OBEX.
For more info: www.cyanogenmod.com (see changelog)

Salling on my Android is #1 on my wishlist! :-)

just wanted to let you know that theres another user out there who would love to see SallingClicker ported to Android, as there really is no comparable alternative on the AndroidMarket right now... any news on wether you are planning to support Android in the future?

Regards, mvol

I've posted a request on these forums for a Wifi-only version of SallingClicker for Android, but this seems to be very low on Jonas's priority-list.

In principle there might be a way for us to get this (Wifi-only) working on our Android phones (I have a Droid Eris). I experimented a bit and made little progress, but perhaps some of you with more time and/or motivation might work on these ideas.

The idea is to use this J2ME MIDP RUNNER software with the MIDP version of Salling Clicker.
http://www.netmite.com/android/
http://www.salling.com/wap/

You can install the resulting APK file to your phone (you will also need to install the APK file for Android J2ME MIDP RUNNER itself).

-----------

I tried all of this, but found that SallingClicker on my Android exited immediately. Perhaps this is because it's trying to run some Bluetooth-enabling code. I wasn't able to (easily) find how to examine a log file for MIDP runner.

Here are some things that you could try after you reproduce what I have done:
[list]
* Ask the MIDP RUNNER author to look at this problem directly
* Ask the MIDP RUNNER author to show you how to generate a log file
* Trying running all this software under the Android SDK's emulator rather than your real phone.[/list:u]

Please post back here if you try this and/or make any progress.

Jonas, if you want to provide us with any help (perhaps by posting a JAD/JAR pair which don't use Bluetooth, or by telling us how to use a configuration file to omit Bluetooth use), that would be great :)

Unfortunately, no Android remote-control software out there holds a candle to Salling Clicker.
