|
|
I have a problem with my N900 media player which is that it indexes everything on the FAT32 partition, which it shouldn't according to the config file.
I order to pin this problem down I need to know if and how Salling Media Sync (which I use, of course) handles indexing of media files when syncing with N900.
Thanks. |

Hi,
I need you to elaborate a bit.
Media Sync has nothing to do with the phone's indexing of files on its storage(s). It puts the files on the storage, and the phone indexes them when you've unmounted the device.
What config file are you talking about?
What do you mean, exactly, when you say "if and how Salling Media Sync handles indexing of media files"?
Best.

That's all I wanted to know to rule out that Media Sync isn't to blame about anything (I didn't think so, just eliminating).
The configuration I'm talking about is the one used on the phone to specify which directories to index. And according to the default setting (which isn't working, this is the bug I'm pinning down) the location Media Sync uses (e.g /Music/) wouldn't be found. Music files would have to go into /Mac OS/Sounds. I will report back on this when I get the phones indexer to work as it should. |

I have quite a few people using Media Sync with the N900, so I'd think the default phone configuration works.
Nevertheless, I'm interested in hearing what you find out.
Best.

Yes Media Sync is working well, for me too. What I'm suspecting is that it might be a bug/misconfiguration in the N900 that makes the files show up. If Nokia corrects this however, it would be very easy to repair for Media Sync, it's just a file path change. |

Not sure if this is exactly what you want demiurgus but you can change the tracker/index locations to add or remove items.
Just go to the terminal and do;
cd /home/user/.config/tracker/
vi tracker.cfg (you can also use an external app like leafpad "leafpad tracker.cfg")
If you have ever looked at a config file before it's pretty simple. There are also comments in the file which will tell you what is what. Just add in there the location of your music.
So if you place it on your external memory card it would be;
/media/mmc1/Music
Hope that helps you~ |

I know exactly how the tracker works, or is supposed to work, but thank you anyway. The thing is that on the N900 the tracker indexes everything in "MyDocs" i.e. the vfat-partition, not just the directories you have included in tracker.cfg, this is what makes Media syncs default directory show up even if it isn't listed in the Nokia supplied default tracker.cfg's watched directories list. |

Yes I know, I also have an N900. You just add your MyDocs or other items to the don't track portion of the tracker.cfg file. I have done this to avoid games or various other items which get pushed to MyDocs from being tracked. I then add my external media and my ~/MyDocs/Music
You can manipulate the N900 a lot just by editing your tracker.cfg file. I haven't seen any bugzilla reports for this unless I missed them. You can turn off all tracking if you want (not sure why you would want to). |
