I have been using the demo version of SEC for the last 24 hours and am most impressed. When I get paid in a couple of days I will definitely be buying a copy.

I have one feature request that I think would be a useful addition to your programme: the addition of a sheduler.

The scheduler would be able to shedule maintainance tasks to be completed between your phone and your mac such as running the iSync script. At present, it is possible to integrate this script with the proximity sensor for full automation. However, if you are like me, and walk backwards and forwards to your computer all day, this means that the sync script runs many times a day which is not really necessary.

My proposed resolution to this problem is as follows: Have a system that uses criterion matching to (1) detect whether the phone is available through bluetooth, and (2) whether a specified amount of time has expired since a script (such as the sync script) has been run. If both criteria are satisfied, then SEC would run the appropriate script.

As an aside, is it possible to grab text messages stored on the T39 and download them to your computer for archival purposes using bluetooth. If so, could this sort of function also be built into SEC using a scheduling approach?

regards

Robert

this scheduling functionality is a great idea, but it could easily be
achieved within the application as it stands. create a log file and
then check it inside of your applescript. if the date/time recorded
was longer than ____ ago, perform a sync and update the log file with
the current date/time. this could be rather useful, so if no one
writes it by this weekend, i'll throw it together.

The next version will allow you to use properties to remember values
*inbetween* calls. You may want to look into using the system level
defaults database (from AS) for things that need to be persistent.

Micah, Jonas,

Thanks for your responses.

Micah: That sounds like a great idea. Unforunately I am not so flash at applescripting. I will sit down and have a bash at it on the weekend too, but I am not so sure how successful I will be.

Jonas: Thanks for the quick response. That sounds like a very useful addition to SEC. Are you giving away any hints as to when the next version will be released? ;)

regards

Robert
