I tried SC for a while, and bought it when 2.2 was released. All was great for about a week.

Then, I started having range issues. It seems that whenever my T68i is more than about 3
feet from my PowerBook G4, I get the "About to lock the computer" warning. In fact, if the
phone is clipped to my right hip, and the computer is to my left (with my body in
between), the range is about two feet. This happens when the phone has a full charge, and
the laptop is powered by an AC adapter. The phone has the latest firmware available, and
the PB is running Panther with all updates.

My primary use for Clicker is as a security device to lock my computer when I leave the
area. Any ideas on how to improve the range?

Thanks for an otherwise great app!

Yeah, I've noticed this as well - T610 here. It would be uber-cool if
the range distance could be set in the preferences :-)~

Karl X,

I find it strange that the radio range would have gone worse from when
you first started using Clicker.

That said, 2 feet is *very* short. I regularly get about 20-30 feet
when the phone is held in my hand ("normal" holding position). Covering
the whole phone with human flesh (my own ;-)), and having my body in
between will drop the range, of course, but I've never gotten less than
10 feet, even when desperately trying to block the signal (for testing
purposes).

I don't know if this helps at all. My most recent test have been with a
G5 (built-in BT w/ std. ext antenna).

FYI: There's nothing that can be done about the range from the
software. Unfortunately...

Cheers.

Does your phone have a vibrating alert?

Thanks for the info, Jonas.

Today (knock wood), it seems to be more reliable. I can't figure it out, though. There may
have been some sort of interference in the vicinity. There is a microwave oven in the room
(coincidentally in use right now, but usually not), and a colleague is also here and we both
use Airport Extreme network. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

(In case anyone else has similar troubles, I seem to have solved
mine.)

The wood-knocking alone didn't help. A little later in the day, the
problems started again.

But, after a bit of Googling, and seeing notes about infrared
trouble with the T68i
being fixed by removing the battery, I tried that. My phone is almost
always on, even
overnight, so I turned it off, pulled the battery, and left that way
for a about a half-hour.

When I restarted, SC was able to initiate connect even across the
room, whereas before it
would be dicey even sitting at my desk.

Interesting. Have you tried upgrading the firmware of your phone?

I had it upgraded to version R8A015 in January, which (I believe) is the most recent
available.
