Not sure if this is the best place to talk about this stuff, but I had a cool idea for a script:

If you've got decent range on your bluetooth (or a small apartment, whichever!) then you could control the AirTunes feature in iTunes to re-direct music to multiple Airport-Express stations around your house. Does anyone know if AirTunes is supported in AppleScript?

Unfortunately, the speaker selector is not scriptable.

Best.

Aargh ;-) that would have been really cool!
Thanks for the info though.

p.s. i'm now also "re-learning" AppleScript as i want to create a few new things that i know can be done…

But it's not for tomorrow…

What about on a plist level, either manually or using the cli 'defaults'? I took a peak at com.apple.iTunes.plist, but it actually looks a bit encrypted.

Even if this information is in the plist, you cannot just modify the plist and expect iTunes to pick up the new information.

Now, the list of available speakers most likely is not in the plist; it's probably built on the fly.

I found my list of speakers in /Library/Caches/
But changing the file does not affect iTunes, nor does iTunes "read" that file at all. It's just writing.

That's a shame ... I was just about to *ask* for this feature ;)

Don't suppose anything has changed in Tiger ?

iTunes has not (yet) been updated in Tiger. You should ask for the feature; can't hurt.

Best.

If it is of interest:

Actually iTunes 4.8 will not bring any updates on Scripting. (legal advise: this is just an assumption)

What I'd like is (1) a way to read and set the current speaker as taken from (2) a collection of available speakers.

iTunes has really awesome scriptability, so it's been kind of sad to see it not done in this case.

Best.
