That suggests that
1. you need to update using that software
2. you need to be using the dlink adapter or built-in bluetooth.
3. updating using that software makes your bluetooth dongle (dlink only??) mac only. i.e. it won't work on windows anymore.

Is this true?
I can pair my BT200 but i can't connect.
... well i can but for only one or two seconds when the connection is automatically dropped.

I have a cheapo TBW 101UB trendnet usb thingy...

[edit]
there are TONS of threads on the apple support site about non-Dlink bluetooth issues.

it isn't any help that buyer reviews on amazon and newegg all boast "this does not advertise mac support but it works on my mac fine. in fact it works better and easier than on the officially supported windows!... blah blah mac praise blah... etc... "

... darn i think i'll be buying another bluetooth dongle.

I have used the Apple Bluetooth Firmware update on both a D-Link DBT-120 and a Sitecom CN-500. It works the same on both, so I guess the internal chipset is the same.

It's not strictly true that the dongle will no longer work on Windows after the update. The firmware update adds support for Bluetooth keyboards and mice to work before the operating system has fully loaded (I think) which is the part the wouldn't work on Windows. However, I've read that on very recent Windows releases this support has also been added, therefore the updated dongle does work - it's only on older Windows machines that it doesn't
