I have a Billionton bt<->usb-adapter, and it is very small - even a
little smaller than the one Apple is selling on Apple Store. It also
comes with a short usb-cable that is nice, because if I just plug the
adapter into the machine, it can break off.
Works great with MacOS 10.2.

Lol... uh, yeah!

Unfortunately, the provider Amazon is using is unavailable in Canada,
which raises the price to $300US. In addition, I don't think I can
order from Amazon.com, and Amazon.ca doesn't carry it the T68i.

So- what's the cheapest anyone's seen the T68i in Canada (or mail order
from the US)?

Morten,
Thanks for the info! Where did you buy the Billionton model? I found
the website and the product, but it doesn't seem to list it in their
webstore.

Thanks!

A while ago I and a few others mentioned that since updating to Jaguar,
Bluetooth had stopped working.

I searched the Apple forums - Apple have remained silent on the matter and
D-Link said it wasn't their fault (quite rightly, it turns out).

Just to say, I have fixed the problem after the most convoluted workaround.

Briefly, if you are having the same problem, try this:

1 Install the BSD subsystem form Jaguar CD 1 (it is a package hidden in a
sub folder on the CD). Do this even if you installed it as part of the
initial install!

2 Create a new user and restart in that new user.

3 Drag the Bluetooth menu object into the menu bar
(System>Library>CoreServices>Menu Extras>Bluetooth.menu

4 Restart into the new user again. Bluetooth should now work

5 Restart in the main user. If Bluetooth still isn't working, drag the menu
object to the menu once more. It should now work...

From what I understand, apple have now acknowledged to some people that
there is a problem here, but not publicly. If you had the problem, it would
be worth telling them via .Mac.

Now if only I could get Jaguar to recognise my Firewire DV camera, all would
be fine!

The provider is not Amazon but T-Mobile
http://www.t-mobile.com

But you are right, they don't serve CA

No, all this was after the 10.2.1 update! I thought it might be fixed, but
it isn't.

Bluetooth does, apparently, have a problem in Jaguar that Apple are trying
to sort out and, judging from the Apple forums, it's quite widespread.
There's no real logic to the workaround that people are using (the one I
mentioned) but it seems to be working for most, whether they have 10.2 or
10.2.1.

The Firewire problem also is not fixed - like many others iMovie now
recognises my camera for about two seconds, (I can fast forward and rewind)
but it won't import. Given the Switch campaign at the moment, this is all
very embarrassing - their silence on the issue is poor but I hear the
problem is being looked at.

If you have access to AT&T, they are offering the T68i for $100
(after you send in and receive $50 rebate) with activation.

>message) when it looks for services on my phone. I'm assuming this
>has something to do with the Ericsson client not finding my phone
>(based upon the readings from the O'Reily link)

This worked for me:

1. Change Mac sharing name: In Sharing preference pane, change
computer name to something short without any spaces or special
characters. (Don't know if this is necessary but it can't hurt.) My
Mac is now named "dtom-pbg4" (was "Derek Tom's Computer").

2. Pair T68i with Mac: On T68i choose Connect
=>Bluetooth=>Discoverable. On Mac, in Bluetooth preference pane,
click Paired Devices tab. Click New and if it asks for password, give
it a numerical password (e.g. 1234). Your Mac should automatically
find your T68i. I forgot exact steps but I think the T68i and your
Mac will ask if you want to pair with one another and you have to
enter in your numeric password on both. On your T68i, do pair your
Mac with it.

Note: On Mac in Bluetooth preference pane, in Serial Ports tab I do
NOT have any ports defined and this works.

3. In Ericsson Client, choose Ericsson Client=>Preferences. Then, for
Serial Port, choose "Bluetooth-Modem".

If your T68i is still in Discoverable mode, on your Mac, about 15
seconds after launching Ericsson Client, the Ericsson Client window
should change status from "Scanning..." to "Getting information..."
to "Drop things on the picture to send".

Should be OK after that.

If it doesn't work the first time, quit and relaunch Ericsson Client.
If it still doesn't work, on your Mac in the Bluetooth preference
pane, in the Paired Devices tab, delete your paired T68i and try
adding it again.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Derek

Hi,

where can I find information on how to use my T68i and
bluetooth to connect to the internet using my G3
powerbook? every time I try to do it, the connection
is established, but then the computer says "no carrier
detected" and that is it. I think the problem may be
in the kind of "modem" defined. I don't have any
sonyericsson modem, so I am using Ericsson's infrared
definition.

any suggestions?

I don't think that's the problem. Do you have "data services" on your
phone network account?

This should answer all your questions and give you a download link to the
modem scripts you need. I am using this phone as a modem and it works
flawlessly.

Which country are you in? Which network are you on?

That works great! Will I need to do that with each sequential release of
Mobile Sync? Not a big deal at all, but I should know before I sync with
the next release...

Nope, not necessarily. I cannot guarantee that things won't change,
though.

PostPosted: Fri Nov 29, 2002 2:38 pm    Post subject: Fax with bluetooth Reply with quote

Thanks for the comments on how to connect to the
internet using my T68i. It worked!

But now I have another problem. I am trying to set
FAXstf to send faxes from my laptop using my T68i.
Unfortunately, when I have to choose the "modem port",
only the apple internal modem is displayed. How can I
make that FAXstf recognize the bluetooth adaptor (and
therefore the T68i), and use it to send faxes?

thanks,

David
